I go by Mercury on here. I'm 20 years old and I use she/they pronouns. I am transitofmercury on AO3, Tumblr and anywhere that matters, apart from my sideblog for Casualty, which-hospital. I mostly use Tumblr but I intend to crosspost some of my longer and more thought out posts.

✧ - I am mainly into a lot of historical fiction. My favourites are often things that I think had "potential, if sometimes questionable execution" - I will mostly talk about about Horrible Histories: the Movie or Katherine from Newsies. I'm also finally reading my way through all the Rosemary Sutcliff stuff that I've been thinking about reading for over a year, my favourite of her novels is Song for a Dark Queen. I also like a lot of musicals.

✧ - I am also quite into medical dramas, especially Casualty. I've watched series 1-3 and since series 36. My Current Series fave is Teddy Gowan, and my Classic Series fave is Sandra Mute. I also love Sah, Paige and Ngozi from more recent Casualty and Andy, Baz, Duffy, Susie, Mary and Karen from the classic series. I watch a lot of other British TV too, mostly sitcoms and soaps. My love for Sandra (played by Lisa Bowerman) has led me to start listening through the Bernice Summerfield Big Finish stuff, which I've loved so far (though I am PAINFULLY UNAWARE of most of DW).

✧ - Please reply to my stuff, or message me on here or on one of my Tumblr blogs!! I might take a while to reply (or come across awkward) but I love talking about my blorbos/listening to other people talk about theirs and want to make more fandom friends.

I wasn't originally planning on making my rewatch review for this episode tonight but after writing up my thoughts about On The Edge, I couldn't help myself. I guess reading about "The Crucifix as Symbol and Object" and writing up an analysis of Sidonius Apollinaris' Letter to Arbogast will have to wait until I've managed to get all the Casualty thoughts out.

For some reason, I've always viewed On The Edge and Falling (on Dailymotion) as paired episodes in what they do for Sah and Teddy's development. I love this one and I was genuinely miserable about it being taken off IPlayer. What this episode does for Teddy's development as a paramedic and person - how his work and personal lives are so hard for him to separate because he became a paramedic to be like Jan - is so great. I also love this episode for Sah and Teddy reasons. It is a big part of my "they're weird about each other" thing but even on a 'just friends' level, this is a really sweet episode for them. It's also quite interesting to see Teddy being the one almost pushing Sah away in this one, and Sah having to be the one to be there for Teddy. Also, warning, there's a single GIF of the cut Teddy got on his hand in Apron Strings in this post, it's not like graphically gory but it is Casualty minor injury levels of bloody.

said I might try to crosspost my previous Casualty reviews from Tumblr on here and I've also been thinking about making some reviews of my favourite older episodes and I just thought, why not just post the reviews of older episodes on here? I still intend to start crossposting my new episode reviews once the show is back on TV but for now, I can't be bothered to post all of my reviews of the Welcome to the Warzone and Driving Force episodes and I also feel more comfortable being so 'bitey' (I don't know how to describe what I mean by bitey... special interest excitement, I guess) about the older episodes over here where less people will see it so this is what I'm gonna do. Basically - only on Tumblr: all of WTTW and DF, only on Dreamwidth: my pre-WTTW rewatch episodes, on both: the episodes that come out after the hiatus.

When I came up with my list of episodes to rewatch and review, On The Edge (on Dailymotion) was one of the first ones I put down. I absolutely adore this episode but it's a classic case of one of my 'favourite' Casualty episodes being one where I could not give a single fuck about most of the storylines, I only care about the Sah and Teddy stuff in this. This is definitely my favourite of the episodes in Sah's family storyline. All of the other ones in that arc, apart from maybe Dark Room, left me feeling a little unsatisfied in how they were dealt with and concluded but this one is such a brilliant addition to Sah's earlier characterisation and kind of begins to define Sah and Teddy's relationship as it is now. It's a great episode for them. During the period where I didn't watch much Casualty, this is one of the only episodes I saw all of and I remember being immediately attached to Sah and Teddy (and kind of shipping them, even then) so this episode also real-life-foreshadowed my current obsession. I also think the interactions between Bill and Sah are so, so good for developing Sah's character into the person we know them as now.

featuring unnecessarily lengthy explanations and in four parts:

  • Process Of Elimination. (Getting rid of the tribes it isn't, based on my own criteria.)
  • The Only Survivor (Kind Of But Not Really): The Cornovii. (Comparing the Cornovii tribe to my criteria.)
  • Confirming The Bias. (Looking for any evidence in the movie to support that it's the Cornovii.)
  • Werewolf City, Roman Britain. (Werewolf City, Roman Britain.)

I’m not an everyone-but-me-is-wrong type of person but I’m worried this post will make me seem like am. Really, I swear I’m just excited to talk about Orla in any context and very passionate about the Celts - there’s a part where I start ranting about how it makes no sense for this one specific tribe to be poor like historians have claimed, really very passionate.

Everything's below the cut because it really is unnecessarily lengthy.

As a bit of a weird celebration of the two year anniversary of my obsession with this movie being reignited, I thought I would make a post compiling all the Horrible Histories movie related information I have going. I'm also slightly convinced that there are more people interested in this movie than it seems but they're struggling to find anything to do with it and this post might help that, realistically it's just that this isn't the kind of media that ever gets much of a fannish response but I have a right to lie to myself. I've included:

Fandom Stuff

  • fanfics
  • my recs
  • ways to find some of the posts that are out there

Movie Stuff

  • places you can watch it
  • a google drive with a bunch of stuff
  • links to other places with official information or just other stuff about the movie

Historical Stuff

  • generally useful sites
  • useful sites for ancient history
  • online museum collections
  • ancient buildings
  • boudicca information
  • (mostly useless but I find it interesting) celtic language stuff

A while back I got my hands on pictures of the issue of the Horrible Histories magazine that talked about the movie. I’m still trying to get my own copy, but I’d been looking for the magazine for a while and had like no details on it because it’s only proof of existence (as far as I was aware) was a super zoomed in image on Sebastian Croft’s Instagram, so getting pictures was a big deal. I know very few people will care about this but I thought I’d post the pictures here so people have access to them. They’re kinda blurry and hard to read, I’ve managed to figure out what most of them say and will type up what I think it says so people can read it. (Anything in square brackets is a section I’m not sure on, if you can figure out what it says please let me know.) I’ve focused on getting the interviews down but if anyone wants me to try and do the stuff written around the pages and on the other pages, I’ll do my best. I've also included any thoughts I wanted to add in red, but there hopefully wont be too much of that.

In short: in the UK at least it’s on BBC IPlayer (occasionally) and Amazon Prime and can be bought or rented in loads of places. If you can’t watch it on IPlayer or Prime it’s probably a better deal to buy a DVD on eBay instead of a digital copy. It’s also available through some less official channels if you can’t access any of those options. Below the cut is a ramble about the different options and also explaining the less official channels a bit more. I also mention different languages and accessibility.

After Heartstopper came out last year there was a wave of people who wanted to watch the Horrible Histories movie and didn’t know how. Maybe there’s still some people out there who want to watch it and maybe when the next season of HS comes out there will be another wave. So I’ve made a list of places you can find it. I’m from the UK so some of these ways I can access it might not be available to people in other countries.

There aren't many fics for this fandom, but of the few out there, there are some that I absolutely adore. These are all great and I've tried to keep my thoughts as brief and coherent as I can manage. If you do check any of these out, don't forget to give some love to the authors, I'm sure kudos and comments (even short ones) would be appreciated!! <3

One ✧ Catullus Spinning in his Grave by misura

Title: Catullus Spinning in his Grave
Author: misura
Rating: General Audiences
Warnings: No Archive Warnings Apply
Relationship: Atti/Orla
Words: 2066
Author Summary: "In hindsight, Atti definitely should have said it with flowers."

Atti attempts to confess his feelings for Orla with a very lengthy poem he has written for her, keyword attempts. This is just brilliant, Atti and Orla sound so much like they do in the movie, and it feels like a very natural romantic development on their friendship at the end of the movie. It’s adorably sweet and awkward and there are so many parts that make me laugh. I’d start listing all my favourite lines, but people should experience it themselves (and also, at that point I might end up copy pasting the whole fic here).

Two ✧ Everything I Need to Know About Love I Learned From Latin by Acacia_May

Title: Everything I Need to Know About Love I Learned From Latin
Author: Acacia_May
Rating: General Audiences
Warnings: No Archive Warnings Apply
Relationship: Atti & Orla, Atti/Orla
Words: 1384
Author Summary: "Completely fed-up with Atti's utter obliviousness, Orla attempts to take matters into her own hands and get him to express his feelings with a Latin grammar lesson. Things do not go as planned...
Or
Storytime with Rattus Rattus/Horrible Histories' Twisted Fairy Tales: The Fairytale of the Amazing Celtic Warrior Princess and the Intelligent Yet Somehow Totally Oblivious Roman Legionary.
Atti/Orla pairing, naturally. This is just super silly fluff for fun as well as kicks and giggles! Hope you enjoy this! Thanks for reading!”

Orla tries to get Atti to express his feelings through a Latin lesson. This also plays with a fairy-tale style type of storytelling in a similar way to the Twisted Fairytale sketches used to do in older seasons of Horrible Histories. This fic never fails to make me smile when I reread it because it is so fun and has so many hilarious parts, but it’s also a really sweet take on an Atti/Orla love confession. Something I especially love about this one is the way that, even if she isn’t as clueless as Atti is, Orla isn’t 100% confident in herself either.

Three ✧ Lost In Translation by Acacia_May

Title: Lost In Translation
Author: Acacia_May
Rating: General Audiences
Warnings: No Archive Warnings Apply
Relationship: Atti & Orla, Atti/Orla
Words: 3814
Author Summary: "Atti's plans for a quiet and unusually uneventful afternoon at home are thwarted when his daughter begins to sing an old, familiar song and insists on telling him a story--ironically his story--whether he wants to hear it or not...
OR
It wasn't so much the fact that Timidius had taught his son, Marcus, a particularly personal and embarrassing song of Atti's from back in the day or even that Marcus had then gone on to teach it to Atti's own daughter, it was more that he had taught her the wrong words...
Domestic & Family Fluff and Humor. Atti/Orla pairing. A bit of a sequel to "Everything I Need to Know About Love I Learned from Latin," but the stories can each stand alone and one is not needed to understand the other.
Honestly this is just for fun and kicks & giggles! Thank you for reading!"

Domestic fluff future fic, very sweet story about a grown-up Atti and Orla, their kids, and Latin being an annoying language. There’s something about seeing Atti and Orla grown up, but still themselves that brings me so much joy. The way they are with each other, and their kids makes it so clear that they’re still the same idiots we see in the movie, but just a little more mature and surer of themselves, and it’s just lovely. It makes me want to bite something in a cuteness aggression, I-swear-I-wont-actually-bite-anything kind of way.

greg jenner (horrible histories historical consultant) just revealed that there were TWO WHOLE SONGS cut from the horrible histories movie on twitter

information revealed just in a conversation about frozen 2

I have so many questions but I don’t wanna be weird and ask him what he remembers of the songs but also I HAVE SO MANY QUESTIONS I mean realistically at least one of them would be a historical fact based one but I don’t think it would be impossible that the other was more character based since I feel like sebastian croft and emilia jones’ singing abilities were definitely considered when they were doing casting and it’s always been a little weird to me that they were only used for two songs but also what other songs could there be? I don’t think there’s really any long stretch of movie without any songs but then again Boudicca Reprise is quite short and without that there is quite a while in between Isn’t It Funny and Orla All Alone so probably they both went in there, especially considering how densely packed the songs are at the end of the movie (in the last 30 minutes there’s 3) but maybe they were cut because they came closer to the end which already has a lot of songs

and like, what part of the movie would benefit from having a song to express the situation? Historical song wise I think there’s loads of possible characters and an Agrippina one could’ve been fun and I think like a mashup of Mother Knows Best from Tangled and the first 2 minutes of A New Argentina from Evita (specifically the Patti LuPone version) would work brilliantly for her. As for character based songs (like Orla All Alone and The Finale), the Orla lover in me kind of wonders if she was ever gonna have a song to herself but that feels unlikely, honestly all options feel unlikely I can't imagine for the life of me another character song that might've been in there even though I think it's likely that one of the two songs was character based

I always assumed there had been ideas that they had early on in making the movie that were lost by the time they got to the finished movie and that while they were coming up with the movie they probably answered some of the questions that the movie leaves open (I’m specifically talking about Orla’s mum I won’t lie) but I never considered that we might’ve lost a song at any point, and definitely not TWO

These might all be different cuts of the same interview, I haven't watched them recently so I can’t tell, but either way they have similar questions and similar answers.

You might notice that Emilia Jones really doesn't appear in many of these considering she plays a main character, I'm pretty sure it's because she was already filming in the US by the time a lot of these interviews were being done, she definitely was by the time the film premiered.

There are also interviews (done by Rattus Rattus) in the behind the scenes DVD bonus feature, in the movie edition of the HH magazine and the Film Stories Junior magazine, and when Blue Peter went behind the scenes with the movie they did some interviews.

There’s a chance Sebastian Croft went on BBC Breakfast around the time the movie came out but I haven’t been able to find a video of it because IPlayer gets rid of “episodes” of Breakfast after a day. It might be an example of Horrible Histories movie lost media or I might not be looking hard enough, who knows?

This definitely isn’t every single interview but I think getting all of them would be tedious for everyone.
